Several months ago Google created a visualizer for the trending searches within several different countries, giving the user a browser full of interesting searches presented in a beautiful way: http://www.google.com/trends/hottrends/visualize?nrow=3&ncol=3&pn=p9.
I thought this would make a great screensaver, so after not being able to find a suitable way of getting this to happen I decided to create one (For Microsoft Windows).
Download: http://www.appliedorder.com/downloads/GoogleTrendsScreensaver.zip (13.2mb)
Simply extract the files where you’d like to store them, right click on the screensaver and click install:
You can set how many rows and columns you’d like displayed (up to 5 of each), and what country you’d like to see trending searches for. I’ve not included *all* of the countries, however there’s a good mix in there. You can also opt to see all countries at once for something a little more interesting:
I’ve tested on Windows 7 machines, but nothing else – if you spot any problems or errors please let me know and I’ll endeavour to fix them.
That’s all there is to it! I hope you like it, and please let me know what you think in the comments.
v1.0.1 – I’ve enabled this to work on multiple monitors. If you don’t have a modern computer you might notice lag on the non primary display(s) if you enable too many boxes to be shown at once. Simply lower the box count and you should be fine.
I’m no longer working from a windows machine, so I won’t be developing this further (or adding new languages). Sorry!
